Welcome
Remarks by the Chair:
M. Saras
chaired the meeting and declared the meeting open.
Suleman
Guven moved a motion to approve the agenda of the meeting. The motion was carried.
Minutes of the previous meeting:
Mohammed
Tajdolati moved a motion to approve the minutes of the previous monthly
meeting held on June 14, 2010 Sulemain Guven seconded it. The
motion was carried.
President’s
Report/Discussions:
·
Dr. Lamba expressed
his desire to rejoin the organization. Mr Saras would later bring it to
the table for discussion. The matter was subsequently referred to the next
meeting.
·
24 members applied
for accreditation at G8 and G20 meetings and everyone was accepted.
·
Canada Day event was
great success. The event was well planned and organized and the President
thanked everyone who worked hard towards the event. The event was also
historic as the guest of honour Premier Dalton McGuinty made a special
announcement of exempting ethnic media from the HST.
·
President Thomas
Saras sent a letter to Heritage Canada seeking some clarification under
Publication Assistance Program. He
urged the members to read the documents carefully before applying for
financial assistance under the program.
·
.The President
informed the members that he is going to Ottawa for consultations with the
Ministry of Culture.
·
CNE tickets for the
national exhibition would be distributed to the members in the next
meeting.
·
This is going to be
the only day that tickets will be available to the members. Nobody can get
any ticket after this day.
·
NEPMCC contributed
$800 for wine for Canada Day dinner. Special Greek wine was served during
the dinner. Also were some other small expenses for the preparation of the
event, totaling another $ 500.00 dollars. The rest of the expense for the
catering was covered by a friend donor.
·
Irene Kerogolidis
sponsored the special gift to Mrs MacGuinty, and Hassan Zerehi paid for
the frame of the Premier’s portrait. The President thanked Irene and
Hassan for her generous
gesture.
·
President Thomas
Saras had a special word of mention for Ned Blair for his work towards the
Canada Day dinner..
·
Asha Rajak got a
standing ovation from all the members for her dedicated hard work towards
the Canada day dinner on July 2nd. According to President she
is the cornerstone of the success. She worked day and night and managed
the incredible.
·
Thomas
Saras expressed his thanks to Jim Karygiannis for his generous
contribution towards the Canada Day Dinner.

Thomas Saras proposed to the council that NEPMCC would certify the
circulation of newspapers for
auditing. He would propose one of the members of NEPMCC to be the
officer of oath, who would
be authorized to certify the
circulation.
·
The Board of
Directors, who attended the meeting, clarified that no agency is appointed as
their agent and that NEPMCC is the only true and official representative
of the members of the ethnic media. Mr. Saras clarified this point to all
members. He referred to a misleading
communication sent to some of the members by a company charging 30%.
·
Thomas Saras
suggested to members of doing community survey highlighting issues facing
their respective communities. There is government funding available for
doing community based research
·
President Thomas Saras informed the council that payment has
been made towards Word on the Street Festival.
·
CNE annual ethnic press festival would be held during the Labour
Day weekend.
·
The President had a special word of mention for Neel Nanda and Asha
Rajak for all her magnificent work she has done for the council.

Business:
Hermie
Garcia reported to the council on the matter (crackdown on a Bangladeshi
media outlet in Bangladesh) brought to his notice in the previous meeting.
He gave a fair review of his understanding of the matter.

New Members: The
council welcomed the following member
The Publisher and Editor of Tamil Mirror monthly newspaper
Adjournment:
Suleiman Guven, moved a motion to
adjourn the meeting, Dr. Tajdolati, seconded it. The motion was carried.
The chair adjourned the meeting at 9 pm. The next meeting would take place
on August 09, 2010
