TORONTO: Canada and
the people suffered a great loss and the New Democrats (NDP) a great
setback when Jack Layton lost his life in the battle with cancer on August
22, 2011. He was just 61.
After Jack Layton, can NDP maintain the great success, remain
organized and produce charismatic leadership? It will not be easy but
really difficult. NDP will face tough challenges and difficult times. The
vacuum created will be hard to fill. The party has promoted and supported
very young ones as leaders. This is a good sign. It can help bring a real
practical change for the NDP, Canada and the people. Thanks for this,

OSAMA
OR BOGEY: HUNTED, KILLED MANY TIMES
BY
JAVED ZAHEER, FREE
EXPRESSION AWARD WINNER
TORONTO: With claims of death of the much feared and dreaded Osama Bin
Laden, has the game of hide and seek ended? Has the last chapter been
finally closed, with the US President Obama himself taking the
responsibility of confirming the authenticity of the news?
If there are doubts in the mind of the people then it is natural.
Gen Colin Powell too proudly and confidently made `authentic claims’,
based on CIA and Pentagon documents, in the United Nations about Iraq’s
weapons of mass destruction, which reportedly proved baseless and brought
shame to whole American people and Colin Powell himself? ...

Unilateral
Settlement Cuts rejects Humanitarian Spirit.
By
The National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada
Word of the federal government’s
decision to impose unilateral funding cuts to vital settlement services
came like the sound of booming canons to providers of immigrant services
across the country. We are disturbed because the social impact of those
cuts would be disastrous.
It is a tremendous shock to be
facing such an enormous financial setback to your operations especially
when there was no advance warning; no prior indication that it was in the
pipeline. Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration has funding
relationships with ten affected agencies. Five are funded through the
Newcomer Settlement Programme that provides support to ethnic communities....

The Obama Administration's
Priorities in South and Central Asia
Remarks
Robert O. Blake, Jr. Assistant Secretary, Bureau of
South and Central Asian Affairs Houston, TX
January 19, 2011
It’s always a treat to get out of
Washington, but it’s truly an honor to speak at the James A. Baker III
Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, risen to become one of the
leading think tanks. The
demands of my job usually require me to travel overseas frequently, and I
wish I could have more events in the U.S. like this, although some in
Washington might question whether coming to Texas is still considered
domestic outreach. ...
